Reunited

Tonight Nature and Rerog will be filling in for me at Top Notch. These dudes have a history of playing insane 4 turntable sets together back in the days at Rubber Gloves. They have not spun together in years. If you get a chance, swing through The Cavern. This one goes down in the books!

The Party x Broken Teeth

Friday night's party at Zubar was packed full of good looks. Big ups to the Broken Teeth crew for throwing together a successful back room brawl. Gsquared was in the building for the first time in months shooting photos (linked below). Thanks to Prince Will, Tony, Keith, Mike and Mario for getting down with us. Shout outs to everyone that came out. There were a lot of new and old faces in the spot. We love you D-town!

Weekend Double Up

The weekend starts tonight at Zubar with our monthy The Party. We will be joined by our homies Broken Teeth, who have assembled an all star line up in the back room. We got Select and myself in the front and Keith P, Prince William and Schwa in the back. It's going to be bonkers!

Tomorrow night we will be in Houston. The Party has been gaining major momentum over the last year. Last month was our 1 year anniversary and we had 900 heads through the door! Let's do this again. It will be Select, Dayta, El Roy and I holding it down. Drapped up and dripped out. Houston let's GO!

Top Notch :: Rehash Edition

Tonight my good friend High-C of Rehash will be joining me at my weekly, Top Notch. High-C has been putting out vinyl releases since 2001 and will have some 12" singles and 45's on hand tonight. If you want to see a highly skilled dj play a all vinyl set, swing through this evening. Dude kills it!

Taken from the Rehash site ::

Rehash is the production/DJ duo consisting of High-C and Wilson from Dallas, Texas. They're the two like-minded vinyl nerds who brought you the critically acclaimed "Last Part" b/w "Mind Under Matter" 45 in January of 2001. This effort constituted the first release on their privately owned and operated label RM-Sound which has since seen 3 more 7"s, two 12" EPs, as well as a 70 minute mix CD. Outside of RM-Sound, Rehash has been featured on a number of singles, compilations and DJ mixes over the years.

Taxi Fare Vol 3. Best of Dancehall 2008

TAXI FARE Vol. 3 Best of Dancehall 2008 is uploaded and ready for download. 2008 was such a big year for Dancehall music. So many huge tunes, huge moments. From Usain Bolt's 9.68 seconds to Mavado and Cocoa Tea's hair raising Barack Obama anthems... Jamaica was on fire last year!!

I really tried to bring the excitement of this past year's music and events to the mix, covering all the the big tunes like Sweep, Nuh Linga, So Special, No Games, 100 Stab... Tunes that at their own particular point in time were literally the hottest joints in the dance. I definitely want to say thank you to everyone that came out and supported Taxi Fare over the last year and a half. There's NOTHING else like it in Dallas and it has been pure pleasure playing this music for you every week.

Tonight's Taxi Fare will be the official CD release party. I'll have a limited run of physical copies with full artwork for sale at the spot. These are gonna go FAST so make sure to hit me early to lock a real deal copy. Digital download it here...

This past Saturday marked the one year anniversary of The Party in Houston. I have said it before and I will say it again, Houston knows how to get rowdy! With 900 heads through the door, Boondocks was a real sweatbox and at times it felt like the second floor was going to cave in. Houston, thanks so much for riding with us over the past year. We are looking forward to rocking with y'all in 09! Big Big ups to the following people: Shawn, Dayta, Squincy, Gracie, El Roy, Johnny Moon, K. Rose, Katrina, Perla, EV, Mel Boogs, Lily, Cashless, Matt, Denise, Waldo, Druski and everyone else that gets down!

Charles Harper (1922-2007)

A Solo exhibition of original paintings and prints by Charles Harper opens at The Public Trust, Saturday March 7, 2009 (6-9PM). The exhibition runs through April 31, 2009.

Charles Harper (1922-2007)
Born in West Virginia in 1922, Harper's formative years were spent on his family farm. This upbringing shaped and inspired the direction of his visual language which began to take shape at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. It was there he met his wife and fellow artist Edie Harper. He would later go on to teach at the Art Academy while they raised their son Brett.

To this day, the images of Charles Harper are tightly woven into the fabric of our visual landscape. Harper's unique visual language rose to prominence with his contributions to Ford Times, as well as his work produced for the Audubon Society and the National Park Service. However, he is most renowned for his illustrations in The Golden Book of Biology. It is in this publication that one can see his effortless command of illustration and design.

His geometric style, which is synonymous with mid-century Modernism yielded some of the most compelling and timeless images of nature and wildlife. In a career that spanned 60 years, these depictions of nature have influenced generations of contemporary artists and designers, including Ryan McGinness whose work was exhibited alongside Harper's in the exhibition series, Graphic Content, at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In late 2007 a 400 page monograph titled, Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life, was authored by internationally acclaimed designer Todd Oldham and published by Ammo Books.

In an interview with Todd Oldham, Harper discussed his simplified forms:

"I don't think there was much resistance to the way I simplified things. I think everybody understood that. Some people liked it and others didn't care for it. There's some who want to count all the feathers in the wings and then others who never think about counting the feathers, like me."

This exhibition will consist of vintage serigraphs and original paintings. The Public Trust is honored to present the work of Charles Harper.

SAS SATURDAYS

Listen up Ladies and Gents. My fellow crew mate Select and homie Schwa are starting up a new monthly, SAS Saturday. It goes down every 1st Saturday in the backroom of Zubar. Their idea behind the monthly is to create a vibe and night that they would actually want to hang out at. SAS will concentrate on Funk, Soul, House and various other genres, reflecting mostly on classics. Don't expect the newest fidget remix or hyped up blog track, just an intimate night of good music.
